Firestone Tire and Rubber company was founded by Harvey Firestone in 1900 to supply pneumatic tires for wagons, buggies, and various forms of public transport wheels. Firestone soon saw the great potential for marketing tires. The company is a pioneer in mass production of tires. Firestone used to be the original equipment supplier of Ford Motor Company, and is also active in the market replacement. Firestone purchased in 1988 by Bridgestone, Jepannes rubber conglomerate based in Tokyo and was founded in 1931. Bridgestone is currently ranked first in global markets tires, two Michelin, Goodyear and Continental the third and fourth.
